mHealth Case Study: Day One
Anyone with a teenager knows that communication between teens has switched from phone calls to text, Facebook and e-mail. This is a huge opportunity for nonprofit organizations like Day One to use mobile health (mHealth) solutions to reach teens who need help. Day One’s programs address youth substance abuse and mental health issues through prevention, intervention, treatment and aftercare. Creative Mobile, LLC, is helping Day One to reach teens in trouble right where they are, by increasing touch points and facilitating dialogue beyond phone calls.
The Challenge: Opening More Lines of Communication
Day One’s goal is to reach more teens earlier in the substance abuse cycle. Its challenge starts when a teen (or friends or family) recognizes that there is a problem and accepts that help is needed. At the present time, that teen or loved one needs to contact Day One by phone during business hours, or send the organization an email.
This is okay, but teens’ communications preferences have changed significantly over the past several years. By opening up channels of communication beyond phone registration, friends, family and parents can start a dialogue with Day One as soon as a problem is recognized.
The Solution: Mobile Healthcare
Creative Mobile is helping Day One address this challenge with mobile healthcare solutions. The mobile website being developed for Day One is designed with a user-first mentality to engage teens on their terms. It includes integrated mobile scheduling, text messaging, e-mail and one touch navigation, making it easier for teens to get in touch with someone whenever they want and wherever they are. The mobile website is accessible from any phone with a decent browser but allows all mobile phone users to send private, secure messages to therapists 24/7, offering teens hope, help and someone to talk to.
The Result: Stay Tuned
