Do You Really Need a Mobile Website?

 

For those marketers and advertisers still not sold on the power of mobile communications and the need to engage their customers and prospects via a mobile website, a report about Cyber Monday issued by IBM showed that sales made via a mobile phone, smartphone or tablet this year increased an incredible 192% over last year. And you can expect that number to only go higher next year. 

The report also showed that the number of people using their mobile phone, smartphone or tablet to just visit a retailer’s website increased 177% over last year. 

So why are so many retailers NOT engaging their customers and prospects using a mobile optimized website?

According to a survey conducted by Brand Anywhere and Luth Research:

  • 51% of consumers more likely to purchase from retailers that have mobile-ready websites
  • 4.8% of U.S. retailers have mobile-specific websites already (are your competitors among them?)
  • 22.8% of the top retail websites (ranked by Alexa®) have mobile-specific websites – if you’re a smaller retailer, having a mobile optimized website is critical to being able to compete with the big players.
  • Web retailers could increase consumer engagement by 85% with a mobile-specific website

So it looks like the answer is a resounding YES – you really do need a mobile website, if you want to capture this fast-growing market.
